Dan Hubbard and The Humadors Presents The Love Show

Songwriter, singer and guitarist Dan Hubbard has been releasing music from his Illinois home close to ten years. Throughout that time, flying under the radar, Hubbard has managed to sell 10,000 albums, an average of 125 performances annually and land on the Americana Music Association’s radio charts. Hubbard is now set to issue his most accomplished musical effort to date with The Love Show on May 24, preceded by the single, “The Last Time You See Me”.

Dan Hubbard trades in a brand of high energy, crisp rock n’ roll flavored with country and blues overtones. His songs are presented by a crack, unbeatable band of musicians – his band, The Humadors. Hubbard has built a loyal following over the past decade with this sound and his dynamic, powerful voice. His songs speak to and about a simpler every day life filled with love, loss and soul searching. A life that might be lived in a Midwestern town like the one he is from.

These kinds of stories, ones that often get overlooked in the constant turnover of today’s indie rock music world, are influenced by Hubbard’s love of the classic sounds of Tom Petty, Van Morrison, Neil Young and Jackson Browne. Like the influential front-men before him, Hubbard delivers a message that people can relate to in good times and bad and with a decade-plus of experience behind him, he does it very well.

I Want That You Are Always Happy by The Middle East

Australian musical collective The Middle East is set to release their debut album I Want That You Are Always Happy on July 12 through Missing Piece Records.

While a bustling port on the northeast coast of Queensland, Australia hardly seems like the most fertile ground for a slice of luminous musical beauty, it was exactly in such a place – Townsville, to be exact -- that The Middle East came into existence. In 2005, singer/guitarist Rohin Jones met Jordan Ireland, and realized that they had much in common. Their shared passion for music inspired them to being writing and arranging, both individually and as a duo, and The Middle East was born.

The self-produced I Want That You Are Always Happy more than delivers on the promise of its predecessor. The songs cover a wide swath of emotional terrain, from the joyful (“Jesus Came to My Birthday Party,” “Land of the Bloody Unknown”) to the elegiac (“Black Death 1349” and “Mount Morgan”) and everything in between.

Jones, a notorious perfectionist, takes a characteristically humble view of the album: “I don’t know whether people will like it. Obviously, I hope they do and I hope they can get what they want from it. For us, I see it as an amiable first attempt and I know we can do better. In fact, I would like to try again someday.”

Socalled - Sleepover

Montreal’s grand musical mash-ter-mind Socalled has announced the release of his fourth studio album Sleepover in the U.S. via MB3 Records. Digital copy is already available on his website and the physical copy will only be out in the Summer.

Few artists can add musician, producer, composer, arranger, filmmaker, photographer, visual artist, and magician to their resume, but Socalled clearly doesn’t subscribe to limits. Somewhere between folktronica, electro-funk, Canadiana, neo-soul, rap and dancehall, SoCalled’s Klezmer sampled beats, full band workout, melodic vocals and emcee contributors are unlike any mash up you’ve heard.

His latest album boasts an international supporting cast of no less than 34 contributing musicians ranging from rap pioneer Roxanne Shante, the beautiful voice of Katie Moore, dynamo musician and producer Chilly Gonzales, king of calypso The Mighty Sparrow, 95 year-old pianist Irving Fields, funk trombone god Fred Wesley and legendary NY underground emcee, C-Rayz Walz just to name a few.
